Regional Fall State Convention

On November 3rd and 4th, Maricopa High School’s Junior Statesmen of America participated in the Regional Fall State Convention. This is an event that is open to the entire state of Arizona and is attended by Chapters from Tucson to Phoenix. Over the two days, students participate in a series of debates and discussions on topics relevant to the current political and social environment. JSA members from Maricopa High School were prominently featured in the majority of debate sessions, where they practiced their skills of debate and public speaking.

At the conclusion of the Fall State, several JSA members from all of the participating schools won awards for “Best Speaker” and received the coveted “Best Speaker Gavel.” Of the several winners of this competition, Maricopa’s own, Hannah Bailey won for her excellent performance in the debate.

Maricopa JSA members Hannah Bailey and Freya Abraham were also two of the three recipients of $2,000 scholarships to participate in JSA Summer School at Princeton, Stanford, or Georgetown University.
